Dr. Charlie Miller

Principal Autonomous Vehicle Security Architect at Cruise Automation

A former National Security Agency hacker, 4-time winner of Pwn2Own, the “Super Bowl” of computer hacking, and the first to hack both iPhone and Android phones, Dr. Miller gained national attention after he and research partner Chris Valasek hacked a 2014 Jeep Cherokee and took control of the vehicle from more than 10 miles away. 

Dr. Miller will show Iowa technology leaders how hackers exploit vulnerabilities and why companies should address cybersecurity before assets are put at risk. He’ll provide attendees with practical suggestions to improve security and solutions for risk prevention.

Kishore Atreya

Kishore is co-founder of the ConsenSys Solutions business and, a blockchain based platform for building supply chains of the future. Kishore started his blockchain journey three years ago and has been leading the vision and execution of several blockchain-based solutions across various industries, governments and NGOs. Kishore co-founded Viant to remove friction in supply chains, and to create transparency and trust in the food we eat and the goods we buy. Kishore comes with 20 years of innovation, technology strategy, architecture and solution experience. Previously at Deloitte, Kishore helped his clients transcend business challenges by providing strategic advisory services and driving transformative change initiatives in retail banking and mortgage.

Jeremiah Evans

Jeremiah is a Senior Application Developer at Zirous with 10 years of experience in IT consulting, and is currently a member of the Zirous Big Data and Analytics practice area. He has been involved in numerous successful projects for cross-industry clients at Zirous, and has been recognized both internally and externally for his contributions. Jeremiah helped launch Zirous’ initial Big Data program, and for the past year and a half has been working closely with a client implementing a broad Big Data/DevOps platform as part of their company’s strategic vision.


Paul Hlivko serves as the Vice President & Chief Technology Officer for Wellmark Blue Cross & Blue Shield.  He is a member of the senior technology leadership team, and is responsible for the strategic direction of technology transformation, digital technology, and innovation.  Several technology teams report to Paul including Enterprise Architecture, Application Delivery, Application Operations, Software Product Management, Enterprise Data Management, Innovation, and User Experience Design.

Before joining Wellmark, Paul served as Senior Vice President and Managing Director for First Niagara Bank’s Information Technology & Digital division, and led their Strategic Investment Program in transforming the organization’s operating model and results across the enterprise, as well as their Innovation portfolio.  Prior to First Niagara, Paul was Vice President, Technology Director, with PNC Financial Services.  Earlier in his career, Paul founded two startups.  He grew an organization to $250M in annual sales that provided digital imaging services and virtual tour products to residential and commercial real estate industries; and a consulting organization that provided web application development services to small businesses.



Terri Jensen

Terri Jensen, President of Three Elements Consulting, is an experienced technology leader who understands the important relationship between a business’ vision and the technology that supports it. She has worked with business leaders to effectively align people, processes, and technology to bring the business vision to life. With over 30 years of experience in technology, change management, project management, strategic planning and organizational leadership Jensen has the tools to get things done. A graduate of Drake University, Jensen earned her B.A. in Computer Science. She also holds a masters in Organizational Leadership from Colorado State University.


Shea Kelly

Shea is the President and CEO of Circle Computer Resources (CCR) in Cedar Rapids. His father, Michael Kelly, founded the company in 1986 with his two brothers, Pat and Chris. Shea began his CCR career as a programmer, but quickly worked his way up to to Chief Operating Officer, and ultimately to his current role as President and CEO as of 2012. His unique combination of tech experience, business strategy, and team leadership have led CCR to new heights in each of his six years as CEO, including: incredible revenue and workforce growth, numerous awards and accolades, and the distinct honor of being named one of only 7 certified Great Places to Work in Iowa.


Michael Klein

Michael Klein leads the blockchain practice within Accenture’s North American Technology business where he is responsible for advising enterprise clients in understanding and deploying blockchain technology. In this role, he has led Accenture’s blockchain thought leadership, training, and growth strategy. Prior to his work in blockchain, Mr. Klein’s career focused on a breadth of emerging technologies as a delivery executive and architect within Accenture’s Emerging Technology and Health Payer practices. He has deep experience in health payer technologies, integration architecture, data supply-chain, DevOps, and software engineering.


Matt McBride

Matt has led multiple technology transformations from the ground up in Fortune 500 organizations such as Countrywide Financial, Bank of America, Tyco, ADT, and 1st Global.  He currently serves as Executive Vice President of Digital and Agile Transformation at Genesis10. Matt brings a front-line perspective and insights on these initiatives, and regularly advises and consults with executives and boards nationwide. Matt previously served as the CIO for 1st Global Resources, a nationwide broker dealer and investment advisory firm headquartered in Dallas. He speaks and writes for publications nationwide, and currently teaches technology leadership and agile in graduate programs at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.  He also writes a monthly column for, and is the author of author of Leadership Patterns for Software and Technology Professionals.


Terry Morreale

Terry is the President and CTO at National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT). Her career began at U.S. WEST where she was the lead engineer of the original region-wide dialup Internet access service. After U.S. WEST, Terry worked at the cable company MediaOne in Technology Intelligence, and then as an IT Strategy consultant for the Gartner Group. She worked in the leadership practice at Kalos Strategy Group and then joined AppliedTrust in 2005. She has a BS in computer science from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a mediation certificate from CDR Associates and several IT technical certifications.


Dave Nelson

Dave is the president and CEO of Pratum, Iowa's largest information security company, which has clients across the United States. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) with 20 years of experience and a Fellow with the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA). Dave has been involved with influencing information security and privacy legislation at both the state and federal levels and has a keen awareness of the impact security and privacy have on both individuals and organizations. He lives in the Des Moines, IA area with his wife and 4 children.


Skyler Nesheim

Skyler is the VP of Dwolla’s Engineering organization. He is fascinated by distributed systems, immutable infrastructure, and functional programming. Skyler has a BS in Computer Science from Drake University and previously worked at Nationwide Insurance.


Ben Schmitt

Ben is the VP of Information Security at Dwolla working with teams tasked with securing data and identities. Prior to Dwolla, Ben was the Global Director of Information Security and Compliance at Danfoss A/S and a Security Architect at TDS Telecom.


Matt Simons

Matt is an Engineering Manager at Workiva in the Infrastructure and Reliability organization. He's given talks in San Francisco, Amsterdam, and a few places in between on topics such as leadership, operational burnout, and crisis response. He's a python enthusiast and cloud advocate, who enjoys far too many hobbies that don't include exercise. He and his wife live in Iowa and his dog is cuter than yours.

Dave Tucker

Dave has spent his career in the software industry in a variety of technical and management level positions. He spent 10 years in Silicon Valley at Hewlett-Packard and then a small startup called T.R.A.D.E., Inc, and then in Iowa at Engineering Animation, Siemens, and since 2009, at Workiva in Ames. He is a 1986 graduate of Iowa State University and has been active with the boards of the Ames Chamber and the Technology Association of Iowa. He currently lives in Ames with his wife, Susan and has two grown kids living in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Kristi Thiel, Ph.D.

Kristi Thiel, Ph.D., co-founder and VP for Business Development at Immortagen, has nearly 20 years of experience in the oncology field, ranging from basic science to translational studies to healthcare entrepreneurship. Dr. Thiel has authored 38 scientific papers and is the named inventor on two patents. She received her Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University and completed her postdoctoral training at the University of Iowa. She has been a finalist several times in the Research Innovation and Rising Star categories of the Women of Innovation Awards by TAI.


Chad Thompson

Chad Thompson is a Software Engineering Manager at DHI Group, Inc. where he leads software development and infrastructure teams in the development and operation of, a service that helps employers find and recruit top technology talent. In this role, Chad was the technology lead in designing and implementing the public cloud solutions that enable to serve a global audience of technology professionals. Chad has also been active in Central Iowa as a consultant, software developer and research lead in industry as well as leading a STEM education research project. Chad has also presented to a number of technology and industry audiences and has published materials with O'Reilly Media and Packt Publishing.


Charlie Turri

With more than 20 years of experience building and leading teams at large insurance companies, Charlie has learned a lot about what it takes to create the type of culture that leads to successful teams and industry-leading technology. Charlie is using that experience to build and lead the tech team at Denim, a Des Moines-based, early-stage technology company that’s reimagining the way insurance and financial service companies market, engage, and sell with intelligent, data-driven technology. When Charlie joined Denim earlier this year, he was charged with driving aggressive growth of the company’s tech team by doubling full-time employees by year-end 2018.
